Job Description: Conduct GIS program activities using GIS hardware and software to produce maps, spatial databases, and thematic data Create, adjust, correct, convert, and distribute base maps and thematic data Digitize and maintain spatial databases of Maryland information Document procedures and validate data for accuracy and completeness Complete approved metadata forms and produce maps of resulting information Support management of geospatial data underpinning address assignment and district boundary maintenance Manage data including street centerlines, address ranges, precincts, and census blocks Import, convert, and reconcile GIS data received from multiple external sources Evaluate external information and data for quality and fitness for production use Provide geographic location coordinates and calculate distances and areas of features Interpret legal descriptions and certify changes in boundary lines Requirements: Bachelor's degree in Geography, GIS Technology, Cartography, Computer Science, Library Science, or a related field At least nine credit hours in coursework specifically related to GIS operation or management Minimum of two years of successful experience at a level equivalent to a GIS Trainee Working proficiency with GIS desktop software for digitizing, editing, and converting spatial data Attention to detail in validating data for accuracy and completeness and completing metadata forms Must be authorized to work in the United States All work must be performed from within the continental United States Must pass a criminal history background check prior to start, renewed annually for the duration of the engagement Candidates must be available during Eastern Time business hours Preferred: Coursework or practical exposure to census geography and TIGER files Preferred: Experience working with street centerline and address range data Preferred: Experience with cartographic production and map layout for public facing output Preferred: Prior experience delivering GIS work on a state or local government program Preferred: Maryland residency of three years or more Benefits: Long term, remote engagement Multi year contract horizon Remote work from within the continental United States Availability during Eastern Time business hours
